Issaquah Triathalon

Cheri in the transition area

This year we celebrated our 3rd Annual Issaquah Triathalon.

The team members are Brandi Clark (our Polynesian fish)

Jamie Gomm (our long legged Gazelle) &

Cheri (the Lance Armstrong of the team)

The girls wanted a PB this year. (PB stands for Personal Best and not Peanut Butter for those of you outside the vernacular of sports enthusiasts.)

Just before the start Jamie knew she was ready for a great performance. Her time trials were all better than the previous two years.

Cheri trained hard this year and after last year ride knew she could improve. (Last year Cheri had just returned from Israel and was sick on race day.)

Brandi was our trepidatious warrior. Brandi wasn’t sure she would improve her time and didn’t want to bring down the team.

And they\'re off!

The water was a brisk 66 degrees and the sun played hide n’ seek until the start of the race, when he came out to warm our spirits and send Brandi off to a record swim.

Our ‘Polynesian fish’ swam like a shark and cut through the water and passed her fellow swimmers to a record time. She shaved minutes off her personal best and was so confidant in her speed she even had time to pose for a picture.Way ahead of schedule

She ran into the transition area, took off her chip from around her ankle and attached to the lovely and gracious Cheri, who would spend the next 50 minutes racing men and women half her age on a 15 mile course that would see her average 16.8 mph.

Cheri rode a solid race and as she came screaming back, she was going so fast she didn’t even notice her fans cheering her on as she entered the transition area to meet Jamie.

Cheri returning to the transition area

Jamie and Cheri made the chip switch from ankle to ankle and Jamie was off. Not be burdened by a sense of urgency and always sensitive to others, Jamie took a moment to thank her supporters and buoy our spirits before she endured the rigors of the 5000 meter run.Jamie just out of the transition area

Not to waste much time, she quickly refocused on her task at hand and proceeded to turn in her PB.

The girls performed very well. They finished 1st in their age group. (We don’t know what age group they competed in, but they still finished first.)(**UPDATE** They finished 1st among the female teams.)

Brandi, Jamie, CheriThey finished 9th overall out of 40 teams, that includes men, women and combined.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

This was a very enjoyable day and the girls performed very well!

Putting your best calf forward

Until Next YEAR!

  1. Way to go ladies!!! Sis. Himmer, I didn’t even know that you had been doing triathlons. It turns out that you’re not just doing them, you’re DOMINATING them. The Issaquah Triathlon website indicates that your time was a minute and a half ahead of the ladies’ team that took second! Good luck again next year.

  2. Just for the record, I not only married someone more intelligent, more beautiful, but also a great athlete. It’s a wonderful life!!!
