To Do List
Now the fun part, here are keys to giving a great talk along with some suggestions:
- Seek the direction of the spirit
- You represent the Lord at the pulpit
- Make your opening remarks sticky
- Introduce your topic through illustration or story. Let the audience discover your topic and connect the doctrines.
- Get the audience thinking.
- Teach doctrine not behavior. (i.e. Telling the congregation that they should do their home teaching is behavior centered.)
- Solve a problem in your talk. Focus on how instead of what. (We should all do our home teaching is the doctrine of WHAT. Teaching examples of HOW to conduct effective home teaching carries a different spirit.)
- Do not thumb through your scriptures looking for a passage. Have it ready.
Thank you for you thoughts on speaking. Very well put.
I HAVE LOVED AND USED THIS ADVICE OVER THE YEARS AND I CAN TESTIFY THAT IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM. THANK YOU RICHARD FOR THIS PROVEN AND TRIED TRUTH TAHT WORKS WONDERFUL FOR ME.
